There are collaborations that seem to just make sense. When Jennifer, from Les Nuits Bleues, suggested photographing my cyanotyped hoops, I said yes without hesitation. Not just because she's a friend, but because her perspective on light and material was exactly what these pieces needed.
Embroidery hoops are a medium I particularly love. Their circular shape creates a natural, almost minimalist, frame that highlights what cyanotype does best: revealing the silhouette of plants, the lightness of wild grasses, the grace of a butterfly frozen in Prussian blue. Each piece is unique, that's the nature of the process, and that's also what makes them works of art in their own right, not just decorative objects.
What Jennifer captured in this series of photos is something I struggled to show myself: the depth of the blue, the texture of the fabric stretched over the wooden circle, the way these small works inhabit a space. The midnight blue background she chose creates an almost obvious continuity with the cyanotypes, as if the hoops had always belonged to that universe.
A beautiful encounter between two blue worlds.
Thank you, my Jenn ♥
